I was born in Toijala (nowadays called Akaa), Finland as the eldest of four children. We all were interested in both arts and sports. My sister Kiisi is a painter today, but is also very active in sports (golf, cycling ans running). My brother Esa, who painted a lot in his younger years, now runs his own company Neoxen. My youngest sister Heini is very talented in visual arts, but her real passion is helping people and so she is working as head nurse in a big hospital. Her sport is horse-back riding. Both my father and my grandmother have been writing poems, so arts have been part of our lives in many forms.
I finished my matriculation examination in 1980 and wanted to explore the world and study abroad. I dreamed about the USA, where one of my aunts lived. Shocked by the US university fees, however, I decided to head for Germany and so I moved to Braunschweig, where my youngest aunt lived.
After studying Electric Engineering and Informatics in Germany, I lived and worked in Istanbul, Turkey. Tourism was so much more interesting than engineering, so - as a history enthusiast- I chose showing Finnish tourists the numerous wonders of Istanbul's old Byzantine and Ottoman sites.
After 11 years in Istanbul, I returned to Finland with my family. I have always appreciated the Finnish school system very much, which gives equal chances to everyone despite of the background. I am happy about our decision. Our children have received an excellent education here in Finland.
After working in tourism, software business, sales & marketing, culture, education and interpreting, I have now (finally) devoted myself to my real passion - visual arts. Realising the limitations of time (and my patience), I chose photography as my way of expression. I had been taking pictures with iPhone for a while, but the real world of photography opened to me only after getting accepted to the art school Pekka Halosen Akatemia.
I truly believe that my life experience, cultural knowledge, language skills (Finnish, English, German, Turkish and Swedish) and willingness to learn new things help me compensate for the late start. I look forward to new projects especially with people, lifestyle and nature. I adore all beautiful things, is it then a beautiful face, a colorful garden, a lovely puppy or an amazing landscape. Flowers & Garden Photography, Portraits and Journalistic tours to different destinations are my favorite fields of interest and expertise (what hopefully also my portfolios show).
